For many years Nelson Grey Power has asked Nelson City council to make it safer for pedestrians to cross Rocks Road at the place where Day’s Track finishes.
Recently mention in “Live Nelson” was a proposal to create a pedestrian refuge in that area.
A meeting was organized with the Nelson City Council Traffic engineer and information was obtained as to where this refuge might be situated.
Some car parks just before the curve on the road leading to Nelson will be lost. This will be unavoidable.
As elected transport spokesperson, on behalf of Nelson grey Power members it was agreed to be in favour of the proposal with the understanding that the loss of car parks will be minimal.

New Road Layout
You will find around Nelson at some Traffic Light Controlled Intersections the markings as shown in the picture above.
They are advanced stop boxes for cyclists at an intersection.
The markings are now done in Nelson with green paint.
This allows cyclists to see and be seen and to let them get clear of the traffic first.
If you see cyclists inthis situation ensure that you give them room to moce when the lights change.
