Health Report
I am a new committee member, my name is Carole and I am still finding my way around this portfolio, gently to begin with!
I will be visiting regularly with our Nelson Marlborough Hospital Board's CEO, Mr John Peters and have access to his Personal Assistant, Gaylene, both are very approachable. I have information coming to hand from Marlborough's Mr Dennis Paget, which is very helpful to me. So hopefully I will grow into the job. We also have regular meetings with Marlborough, Golden Bay, and Motueka Grey Power members on the health issues.
There will always be problems for our age group, so if we can help we will try. I have had several queries so far and have answered to the best of my ability. We can but put our heads together to try to come up with answers.
Health covers such a vast array of areas, from visiting your Doctor regularly, to our rest homes and all they entail, to the hospitals and sometimes the hospices.
There are problems at present with the Joan Whiting Rest Home in Collingwood being integrated into the health facility on another site, or even having to shut its doors, because of lack of monies, all of which has a vast effect on the local community. It is very difficult to have three Grey Power Associations involved in one district that is covered by the NMDHB, Marlborough is somewhat separated and have their own committee dealing with health problems.
I am aware that each association likes to deal with their health problems affecting their areas of concern and at all times endeavour not to transgress into each other's territory. If it appears that I have crossed our boundaries I apologise and if any other association is concerned about any matter dealing with health please let me know.
If any of our members have any health concerns please ring the office and leave a message for me. I will make contact with you as soon as possible.
