Nelson Joint Effort Walk

The New Zealand Orthoapedic Association will be running its biennial Joint Effort Walk on Sunday 25th March 2012.

The walk is held throughout the country and raises money for research into bone and joint conditions.

Over the last decade, these funds have greatly assisted surgeon in improving the quality of care for patients. The 2010 walk raised over $10,000 to help researchers improve results and develop better techniques for orthopaedic problem.

We would like to invite the Nelson community and recipients of orthopaedic surgery to join us. There will be displays of joint replacements, demonstrations of surgery on plastic bones and light refreshments after the walk.

A new acting chief executive for Nelson City Council has been appointed to "guide the ship" through the next few months as the council awaits the public's decision on amalgamation.

Rates relief discussion deferred

Rates relief for those who are unable to live in their homes after December's flooding has been put on hold by the city council, and will now be discussed later this month.

Enrolments are up at many schools across the Nelson region thanks to an influx of new arrivals to the region, but fees are unchanged from last year.

Nelson Joint Effort Walk ... continued

If you have had a joint replacement or just walk to find out more, bring your family and come to support the walk. This year there will be entertainment for children and gold coin donation refreshments.

The event is a 1km walk around the Trafalgar Centre. A series of prizes are up for grabs including most joints replaced, youngest/oldest participants and most money raised. Entertainment will be provided after the walk.

If you have had a hip or knee joint replacement in the last five years, you should have received a registration form in the post.
