Social WellBeing Policy


After reviews in 2010 and 2011 a revised Social Wellbeing Policy was adopted on 28 June 2011. It is due to be revised again in 2017.


The revised edition now contains; an appendix listing groups in Nelson that contribute to social wellbeing.


This list can be amended so any groups within the region can email Council enquiries at any stage to add information or update their existing listing.

Bus Transport


Earlier in the year Nelson Grey Power were asked by the Nelson City Council for an opinion on improving the bus service between Nelson and Richmond.


On viewing the Annual Plan 2011-2012, which came into effect on 1 July 2011, it appears that there was a confirmed proposal to increase the bus service between Nelson and Richmond.


The cost of parking within the City will be increased to fund the additional service.

Nelson Rates Are On The Rise


The Annual Plan also outlines a rate increase for all Nelson homeowners for the coming year of 3.48%, excluding GST


This includes water and trade waste charges.

Senior Parking Pass Scheme


If you live in Nelson, are aged 65+, and have a valid drivers licence, you will qualify for the Nelson City Council's Senior Parking Pass Scheme.


For just $20 per year a holder of a Senior Parking Pass can park in the Nelson Central Business District for 1 hour per day.


Meter Controls Limited

The fee, however, will be adjusted every two years in line with the Consumer Price Index (CPI).


There are area's around the city that you cannot park in such as Fashion Island, Trafalgar Street and Nelson Airport.
